6 Simple Ways to Practice Kindness at Work
Long gone are the days when individuals were expected to separate their personal and professional lives upon arriving at the office. As humans we know it’s not possible nor is it a healthy expectation to keep our various ‘worlds’ apart.

There is a slow, but immediate shift beginning to take shape in workplaces across the world. How do we know? We’re fortunate to hear from individuals who are tasked with making their workplace a better, kinder place for everyone to be, and that’s good news for all of us.

If you’re one of those amazing individuals or just an amazing individual, here are 6 simple ways for anyone to practice kindness at work.

  1. Smile - it’s easy and it’s free. A simple smile is an easy way to communicate kindness to another individual without ever having to say a thing.

  2. Send an encouraging email. Nowadays, anyone with an email address gets dozens or hundreds of emails a day - most of them spam. But, wouldn’t it be great to stumble upon a nice email from someone? Whether it’s a coworker, classmate, family member or friend, find someone in your life that could use some encouragement. A little kindness goes a long way.

  3. Write a letter to your future self at futureme.org and schedule to receive it in 1 year - don’t hold back. What is something you’ve been putting off but want to achieve? Write it down and reflect in a year on your progress.

  4. Try our new workplace kindness challenge - a fun and engaging challenge to use in your workplace to encourage a kinder, more compassionate environment.

  5. Be a good listener. “Deep listening is the kind of listening that can help relieve the suffering of another person” -Thich Nhat Hanh

  6. Download the Kindness at Work calendar and continue practicing kindness every day of the year!
