The next time you are hungry for a snack skip the soda, chips, or candy bar and eat a healthy snack like a piece of fruit, a granola bar, or some vegetables. Eating healthy is a simple way to be kind to your body; it's a great way to get the energy you need to pay attention at school and work or enjoy to yourself doing something you love outside. Be kind to your body and eat healthy snacks!
Eating more healthy snacks will help keep your energy levels even. Too much refined sugar (found in junk foods) will lead to a false feeling of more energy, often referred to as a sugar rush. When the rush wears off most people end up crashing pretty hard. Eating healthy snacks and meals help keep you productive and happy all day, and more available to help others.
Set yourself up for success! When you go grocery shopping don't buy the junk food snacks; instead stock up on apples, bananas, granola bars, mixed nuts, carrots or celery. If you don't have the junk foods available in your house you and your family won't consume them! Pack your lunches so your not tempted to buy something unhealthy outside of the office or from the school vending machines. Or, make it a habit not to keep change so you can't buy an unhealthy snack even if tempted! This will not only help your health, but also your wallet!
Don't try and switch all at once. Ease yourself into it! Try trading out one snack a day for something healthier. If you really don't like vegetables on their own, try dipping them in a low-calorie dressing or some hummus. Or try an apple with peanut butter. Do your best to try one new healthier snack a day. Your body will thank you!
