It is often said that you can't know where you are going unless you know where you are from. Creating a family tree helps you know where you come from. And a framed family tree makes a wonderful gift and life-long possession for loved ones.
Learn more about your ancestry and speak with your relatives. This could be a great activity to do at the next family reunion. Or even better, a great excuse to get the whole family together!
You will learn things you never knew about your aunts and uncles, grandparents and great-grandparents. Projects like these often bring family members closer together as they learn more about each other, and their shared history.
Organize a family reunion. Get everyone together to talk about your shared history. If your parents or grand-parents were born in another country, there is a good chance you still have relatives there. Save up some money and go visit them, or invite them to come and stay with you! It may be the only chance you get to meet them.
Don't have time to do a lot of research? Dedicate one day a month to calling your grandparents or other relatives and be intentional about asking them questions of their heritage. You'll be amazed at what you learn; not only about them, but about yourself!
