Everyone loves to receive mail, and especially a care package. Maybe you have kids in college. Maybe you have a friend studying abroad, or maybe your brother or sister moved away to start a new job. These days families are more spread out than ever and people are making friends all over the world. It doesn't take much to stay in touch, especially with email, cell phones, and social media sites. But if you really want to make someone's day, and let them know just how special they are to you, then send them a care package! Don't have time to compile the package today? Spend a few minutes making a list of all the items you'd like to send them, and over the next couple of days put them in a box for your lucky recipient!

You can put any number of things in a care package, but here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Homemade cookies or brownies
  • Favorite snacks: candy, chips, jelly beans, chocolate, popcorn, etc.
  • Toys and games: yo-yo, puzzle, stuffed animal, etc.
  • Clothes: shirts, socks, seasonal hats or mittens, etc.
  • Music: make a CD for them, or find their favorite album
  • Favorite book
  • A card from you to make it personal!

Benefits:

As William Shakespeare once said "It is twice blessed- It blesseth him that gives, and him that takes."· (The Merchant of Venice, Act IV, Scene I.) When you send a care package to someone, it not only makes the recipient feel good, but you, the sender, as well! You know that you are making a difference in another person's day.

Step It Up:

Send a package to a stranger in need: a soldier who's away from the comforts of· home; natural disaster victims; students who need school supplies. Let them know they are loved, too!

Keep It Simple:

A care package doesn't have to be big or expensive. Make your own cookies or CD and write a note and send it on it's way! Really short on cash and time? Send an email to someone you haven't talked to in a while. Let them know you're thinking of them!
