LEARN MORE
No matter how old you are, where you live, or what you do, we all have the opportunity to make kindness a priority: to see the positive in a difficult situation, to encourage others, to listen to our friends and family, to treat others with respect and to volunteer our time, energy, and resources to help make this world a better place.
Kindness can truly be a way of living, it doesn't have to be a one-time act. You can be kind in everything you do. Make the choice to make kindness a priority in your life today!
Numerous scientific studies show that acts of kindness result in significant health benefits, both physical and mental. Helping contributes to the maintenance of good health, and it can diminish the effect of diseases and disorders serious and minor, psychological and physical. There has also been studies that show stress-related health problems improve after performing kind acts. Helping reverses feelings of depression, supplies social contact, and decreases feelings of hostility and isolation that can cause stress, overeating, ulcers, etc. A drop in stress may, for some people, decrease the constriction within the lungs that leads to asthma attacks. These are just a couple of the benefits of living a life of kindness. You can find more in the Related Resources section below.
Commit to living a life of kindness. Make kindness a priority not only in your life, but in the lives of your family members and friends. Encourage others to make kindness a priority as well. Lead by example!
Start with one thing at a time. Make a decision each day to do one kind act: hold the door open for someone, give up your parking spot, leave an encouraging note for a friend to find, send a positive email. Try this for a week, and then another week. Slowly you will realize that more and more you are thinking about kind things you can do for people. You will start seeing more opportunities to do good, and you will enjoy it!
