"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."
~Winston Churchill
We all go through difficult situations. Often it can be quite hard not to get frustrated. The next time something goes wrong challenge yourself to look at this new difficulty in a positive way. Having a good attitude can do wonders for both yourself and those around you! Take Winston Churchill's advice and be an optimist!
Dr. Martin Seligman is Chairman of the University of Pennsylvania Positive Psychology Center
and the founder of Positive Psychology. His research has demonstrated that regardless of circumstances you can be a happier person. His studies also show that those with a positive outlook on life have better health, a higher rate of achievement, they live longer and they have less stress. Not to mention when you are a positive person, people want to be around you!
Commit to being a positive person no matter what life throws at you. Encourage your friends and family to be positive people, too. When they are going through difficult times, encourage them to see the growth opportunity that their challenge presents. Begin a journal to help you keep a positive attitude. When you come upon difficult situations, journal about it. Write about your frustrations, but also write about the positive side of a particular difficulty. Write down how you can handle this in a positive way. Record what happens. Looking back in the journal will help you remain optimistic as new challenges come.
Start with one thing. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you read the word "challenge" or "frustrating." Make a decision right now to take some time to see that one thing in a positive light. Make a list of positive things that could come of this situation. Focus on those instead of the frustrations.
