International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. The first International Women's Day was observed on 19 March 1911 in Germany. The idea of having an international women's day was first put forward at the turn of the 20th century amid rapid world industrialization and economic expansion that led to protests over working conditions.
In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday. To learn more please visit internationalwomensday.com, a global hub for sharing International Women's Day news, events and resources.
Visitors from all over the world have already posted their events and a theme this year is the "meet me on the bridge" campaign. Check out this map provided by google and find an event near you! Not able to get out of the office today? Weather have you stuck at home? Full day of classes and work?
Celebrate International Women's Day online with The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation and send us the stories of the women who inspire you most! Whether it is your mom, your favorite actress, your sister or neighbor, let us know! Share their story here, or share it with us on Facebook.
