It’s New Year’s Eve and we have plans to go to a party with friends. The US will be rockin’ and toasting in the New Year with more people than usual out on the roads past midnight.

12-30-11 We have a close group of friends and over the years we have developed some personal jokes together. So now every time we go over to one another’s houses for a party, someone takes one of those big jumbo pickles in a bag and hides it at the party host’s home. I don’t even remember how the joke with the pickle got started now.

Recently we tried a new sub shop that opened up in our neck of the woods. I’m sure you may be wondering what all of this has to do with each other. Well at the sub shop they sell their empty 5 gallon pickle buckets for $2 as a fundraiser. The money goes to purchase firefighting equipment for local departments.

Korobe is our sponsored child who lives in Africa. Her birthday is coming up in February. As you can imagine it takes a little bit of time for our correspondence to reach each other as not only does it have to make it to another continent, but it also has to be translated. This makes me really stay on top on sending gifts, etc… to make sure they are there in time.

The good news about Compassion is that they make it easy to send a gift. All I have to do is log on under my sponsor information and select a dollar amount gift to send. They then purchase gifts based on our child’s needs and appropriateness.

We went out to see a family movie this afternoon and we went to our favorite theatre, which is in a multi-entertainment center overlooking the river. So there is a parking garage and today we paid for the next person’s parking. This has kind of become my thing whenever we go there.

12-24 thru 26-11 It is Christmas weekend and opportunities for adding Joy to the World RAKs are all over the place. It is the gift giving season and I did give one of my friends a gift today. It was funny as we actually ended up giving each other inspirational books. We laughed and hugged and decided we must both need these books.

I also was asked to help with the children singing at church tonight. We were able to add a little Joy to the World during the service that way. Celebrating with our friends and family here was very meaningful.

Today was L’s first day of winter break so we planned to sleep in, go to brunch, hit the gym and then prepare a special Christmas present for an animal shelter.

So since I am not in the office today, this afternoon K and I dipped up a batch, complete with red and green festive sugar sprinkles. Since it is the holiday time, we added Oreo Truffles to the tray. Then we took them over to the office for everyone to share.
