Offer a Couple Hours of Free Babysitting to Parents

Many parents of young children can’t afford to go out as much as they like because they don't have time, or can't afford the added expense of a babysitter.

Give a family with small children a chance they might not have by donating a couple hours of your time to watch their children for free.

Benefits

Being a parent can be a lot of work and tiring. Offering to babysit for someone who can't afford a babysitter will give the parents a much-needed break.

Step It Up

Teenagers can put an ad in a neighborhood newsletter or church bulletin, offering free babysitting services to parents who need a break.

Keep It Simple

Offer to spend an evening watching a friend’s or relative’s kids.

This is a great and easy way to show kindness. Even if you can watch someones kids for a few hours while they go grocery shopping would be greatly appreciated. It's the little things that count!

I think this is a fabulous idea also...Im 51 and our son is grown now but we borrow our nieces and nephew from time to time for weekends to give their parents a break. I would add...if you know a caregiver who has an elderly or sick relative it may be nice to offer them a few hours also. My mom is 92 and my husband and I try to get people to help us go for coffee or a walk once in a while...its needed but would be so much more appreciated had it be offered to us and not have us have to ask.

I've been doing this for years. It is so rewarding to be able to help out friends who might not be able to do some things if they didn't have a sitter. And for me, since I don't have children of my own, I get my "kid fix." I love getting to be a part of the lives of my friends & their children.

What would you do?

What would you do if you see a child struggling with school books and no book bag?
